Milo Nekoyanagi (猫柳 ミロ), is one of the main protagonists of the anime and light novel series Sabikui Bisco (Rust-Eater Bisco). Known as the “Panda Doctor” due to his white hair and black eye markings, Milo is a young, skilled doctor working in the city of Imihama. He becomes the traveling companion and closest ally of Bisco Akaboshi, a wanted terrorist and Mushroom Keeper, after learning that mushrooms may hold the secret to curing the deadly Rusting disease a disease slowly killing his beloved sister.
Despite his soft-spoken nature and polite demeanor, Milo is fiercely determined and courageous, willingly throwing himself into danger to protect others and pursue a cure for the Rust. As the series progresses, his bond with Bisco evolves into a partnership built on trust, shared struggle, and mutual respect.
Background

Appearance in Anime
Milo grew up in Imihama, a walled city ravaged by the spread of Rust, a deadly disease believed to be caused by mushroom spores. As a child, he dedicated himself to becoming a doctor, determined to find a cure after his sister Pawoo Nekoyanagi became infected. By the start of the series, Milo is already known for his exceptional medical knowledge and compassionate bedside manner, despite his young age.
When Bisco Akaboshi bursts into his life, bringing the truth that mushrooms may not be the cause of the Rust—but its cure Milo decides to leave the city and travel with Bisco in search of the legendary Rust-Eater Mushroom. His transformation from a sheltered city doctor to a battle-hardened survivor marks one of the series’ most dramatic developments.
Appearance
Milo is a slim, androgynous young man with short white hair and distinct black markings around his eyes, resembling those of a panda. This striking look earns him the nickname “Panda Doctor.” He typically wears a white medical coat over a black uniform and carries a medical satchel, reflecting his profession.
Despite his delicate features, Milo becomes physically tougher throughout the story. His expressions are often calm, serious, or gently encouraging, but he’s also capable of intense determination when pushed to protect someone he cares about.
Personality
Milo is intelligent, composed, and kind-hearted, often acting as the voice of reason and morality within the story. As a doctor, he is gentle and deeply empathetic, with a commitment to healing and protecting life. However, he’s not afraid to stand his ground or take action when it comes to defending his loved ones, particularly his sister and Bisco.
His polite speech and caring nature often contrast with the chaotic and wild world he navigates, but over time, Milo proves himself as someone capable of enduring violence, hardship, and emotional pain for the sake of his ideals. He grows more assertive and courageous, emerging as both a moral anchor and a capable fighter.
