Abel Bluefield (アベル・ブルーフィールド, Aberu Burūfīrudo) is one of the primary antagonists in Fena: Pirate Princess. A high-ranking colonel in the British Army, Abel is determined to track down Fena Houtman, pursuing her across land and sea as part of a deeply personal and mysterious mission tied to her past.
Personality

Appearance in Anime
Abel presents himself as a composed, courteous, and refined officer, often appearing as the quintessential gentleman and a man of duty. Beneath this outward charm, however, lies a deeply obsessive and emotionally unstable individual. His pursuit of Fena Houtman is driven by a lingering fixation on her mother, Helena, with whom he was in love. Even years after Helena’s death, Abel’s devotion to her memory continues to dictate his actions.
While he maintains a calm and polite exterior, Abel is ruthless and unfeeling when crossed. He shows no loyalty to subordinates or allies who defy his expectations, as demonstrated when he coldly abandoned Grace O’Malley and the crew of the Rumble Rose after they injured Fena. His vindictiveness is further revealed when he orders the use of the powerful Wellington cannon to annihilate their ship in a single blast.
Abel also suffers from severe emotional trauma stemming from witnessing Helena’s execution. He often isolates himself in his quarters, where he experiences episodes of melancholy and psychological turmoil, frequently fixating on a portrait of Helena in a state of grief and despair.
Appearance
Abel is a tall, striking man with refined features. He has wavy pale blond hair, with long bangs that fall over the left side of his face. His eyes are a clear blue, complementing his composed and elegant appearance. Abel’s slim build and dignified posture contribute to his aristocratic and commanding presence.
Abilities
Abel is an exceptionally skilled combatant, known for his deadly precision in battle. He boasts remarkable marksmanship, claiming he can shoot the wings off a fly from a distance of ten paces using his custom triple-barreled pistol, highlighting his confidence and lethal accuracy.
In addition to his combat prowess, Abel is also a highly talented portrait artist. He painted a lifelike portrait of Helena, Fena Houtman’s mother, capturing her image with such detail and emotion that it reflects the depth of his obsession and artistic skill.
Relationships
Helena
Abel was deeply in love with Helena, Fena Houtman’s mother. His affection for her remained unwavering even after her death, to the point that he painted an intricate portrait of her wearing a wedding dress. His love for Helena evolved into an obsession, driving much of his motivation throughout the series.
Fena Houtman
Abel pursues Fena across the seas aboard his ship, the Blue Giant. His pursuit is rooted in his love for Helena and the knowledge of the Houtman family’s significance. He forms a temporary alliance with the crew of the Rumble Rose to aid in locating Fena, though his motivations remain largely personal and emotionally driven.
