James Bonde

James Bonde (ジェームズ・ボンド, Jēmuzu Bondo), formerly known as Irene Adler (アイリーン・アドラー,Airiin Adorā), is a character in the Moriarty the Patriot series and an associate of William James Moriarty. After staging the death of Irene Adler, he assumes the identity of James Bonde and later becomes the seventh agent of MI6, continuing his covert activities under his new persona.

Appearance

During his time as Irene Adler, James had long blonde hair and wore elegant makeup and elaborate dresses, reflecting the image of a former prima donna. His style was flamboyant and graceful, suited to his public persona.

After adopting the identity of James Bonde, he cut his hair short and adopted a more formal appearance, typically seen in a grey suit paired with a pink tie. He has light blue eyes and a small, distinctive mole beneath his right eye, which he conceals with makeup when in disguise.

To appear taller, James often wears shoes with an 8 cm lift, bringing his apparent height to approximately 178 cm (5’10”). Without them, his natural height is around 170 cm (5’7″).

Personality

As a former prima donna, James became disillusioned with the reality that talent alone was not enough to succeed in society status and noble connections often overshadowed merit and hard work. In response, he began using his beauty and charm to manipulate and blackmail aristocrats, not for personal gain, but to support young talents who were excluded due to their lower social standing. Through these efforts, he helped numerous aspiring individuals, such as musicians who lacked access to education, driven by a desire to reshape society and uplift those with true potential.

James is highly intelligent and a skilled performer, capable of deceiving even Sherlock Holmes. When threatened by powerful enemies, he orchestrated a clever scheme involving Holmes that forced the government to negotiate with him rather than eliminate him.

After faking the death of Irene Adler, James embraces the opportunity to live openly as a man. He is given the first name James by William and Albert Moriarty, while choosing Bonde himself to reflect the new connections and purpose he found within the Moriarty group. He confidently adopts this new identity and asserts his wish to be recognized as a man by those around him.

Feeling a strong sense of gratitude toward William and Albert, James initially strives to prove his worth and fulfill his role flawlessly. However, during a mission, he comes to realize the value of trusting his own instincts and acting independently, acknowledging that he has never been one to be confined by traditional expectations.

James is also known for his flirtatious nature, showing interest in people regardless of gender. Notably, he even invited Miss Moneypenny out on a date, further highlighting his bold and playful personality.

Biography

James Bonde was born in New Jersey, United States, under the name Irene Adler. Rising to prominence as a gifted opera singer, Irene became the celebrated prima donna of the Warsaw Opera House.

Their outlook changed dramatically following the suicide of a fellow performer, a promising successor whose talent went unrecognized due to her lack of noble connections. The tragedy deeply affected Irene, inspiring a personal mission to challenge societal inequality and uplift individuals overlooked by the aristocracy. Using charm and influence, Irene seduced and blackmailed powerful figures such as nobles and dukes to support young, underprivileged musicians who would otherwise be denied opportunities.

Eventually, Irene retired from the stage and relocated to London, where this mission continued to evolve and ultimately led to their involvement in a much larger scheme.

Origin

James Bonde’s character is inspired by a blend of two iconic literary figures: James Bond, the British secret agent from Ian Fleming’s spy novels, and Irene Adler, a clever and enigmatic woman featured in Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes stories. This fusion reflects both Bonde’s sharp intelligence and undercover skills, as well as the elegance and intrigue associated with Adler’s character.

Relationships

John H. Watson: Bonde interacts with Watson on a few occasions, often finding amusement in his earnest and straightforward nature. Though their encounters are brief, Watson’s kindness leaves an impression on Bonde.

Sherlock Holmes: Bonde’s relationship with Sherlock is layered and complex. Despite being on opposing sides at times, Bonde manages to outwit Sherlock and later involves him in a plan that secures his safety.
