Yuuta Togashi (富樫 勇太, Togashi Yūta), is the main male protagonist of the anime and light novel series Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions! (Chūnibyō demo Koi ga Shitai!). A former “chunibyo” sufferer, Yuuta once went by the alias “Dark Flame Master” during middle school, believing himself to possess supernatural powers. Upon entering high school, he vows to leave his embarrassing past behind and lead a normal life—only to be pulled back into the world of delusions when he meets Rikka Takanashi, a classmate still in the throes of her own chunibyo fantasies.
Yuuta is voiced by Jun Fukuyama in the Japanese version and Leraldo Anzaldua in the English dub.

During his middle school years, Yuuta was deeply immersed in chunibyo (eighth-grader syndrome), adopting the persona of the “Dark Flame Master” and behaving as if he possessed mystical powers. Though his delusions once gave him confidence and identity, they also became a source of embarrassment and isolation. By the time he enters high school, Yuuta is determined to start fresh, transferring to a new school where no one knows his past.
However, his efforts to escape his old self are disrupted when he meets Rikka Takanashi, a girl who recognizes and admires his former persona. Despite his reluctance, Yuuta gradually becomes involved in Rikka’s world and begins to understand the emotional roots behind her delusions leading him to reevaluate his own past and reconnect with the imaginative side he tried to suppress.

Yuuta is a teenage boy with short brown hair and brown eyes, usually seen in his school uniform or casual clothes. His appearance is clean and typical for a high school student, designed to reflect his desire for normalcy.
In flashbacks or during comedic sequences, he is occasionally shown wearing his Dark Flame Master outfit, complete with a dramatic cape, fingerless gloves, and exaggerated accessories. These moments are often played for humor but also underscore the sincerity of his former beliefs.
Personality
Yuuta is rational, kind, and slightly cynical, particularly when it comes to dealing with chunibyo behavior. Initially embarrassed by his past, he tries to distance himself from anything overly imaginative or childish. However, as he grows closer to Rikka and her friends, Yuuta reveals a more empathetic and understanding side.
He often plays the role of the “straight man” in comedic moments, balancing the eccentric personalities around him. At the same time, he is protective, thoughtful, and introspective, and he gradually learns to accept his past instead of rejecting it, realizing that chunibyo is not something to be ashamed of, but rather a part of who he is.
Role in the Story
Escaping the Past: Yuuta begins the series attempting to leave behind his middle school delusions. He throws away his Dark Flame Master gear and enrolls in a new high school to live a peaceful, ordinary life. However, this plan is quickly derailed when Rikka, a girl still trapped in her own delusional world, attaches herself to him, calling him her “servant” and drawing him into her antics.
Connection with Rikka: As Yuuta reluctantly interacts with Rikka, he begins to see that her delusions stem from a deep emotional wound specifically, the loss of her father. Yuuta becomes a source of comfort and stability for her, and their relationship slowly develops into a romantic bond. Through Rikka, Yuuta starts to understand that accepting one’s past is part of growing up.
Growth and Acceptance: Over the course of the series, Yuuta transitions from viewing chunibyo as something shameful to seeing it as a harmless form of self-expression. He rekindles his imaginative side to support Rikka and eventually embraces aspects of his old persona to connect more deeply with her. His journey is one of maturity, emotional healing, and rekindled creativity.
Relationships
Rikka Takanashi: The female protagonist and Yuuta’s love interest. Rikka’s chunibyo behavior initially frustrates Yuuta, but he soon realizes that she’s using fantasy to cope with emotional trauma. Their relationship develops into a genuine romance, with Yuuta becoming her emotional anchor and biggest supporter.
Shinka Nibutani: Yuuta’s classmate and another former chunibyo. Though she tries to hide her past like Yuuta, they often bond over their shared embarrassment and end up forming a close friendship through their involvement with Rikka and the others.
Sanae Dekomori: A delusional and over-the-top follower of Rikka, Dekomori often clashes with Yuuta but also looks up to him as the “Dark Flame Master.” Their dynamic is comedic but reflects Yuuta’s reluctant mentor role in the group.
Kuzuha Togashi: Yuuta’s younger sister. She often teases him and acts as a voice of reason, particularly when his past begins to resurface in unexpected ways.
