Ulema Beyazit is the fourth-generation Sultan of the Mizrak Stratocracy in the anime series Altair: A Record of Battles (Shoukoku no Altair). As a ruling monarch, he holds both political and military authority within the militarized nation of Mizrak, maintaining influence over its governance and strategic operations.
Appearance

Appearance in Anime
Ulema Beyazit is a young man with a slim build and a more delicate frame compared to his older brother, Baraban, who inherited their father’s robust physique. He has short, wavy black hair, a common trait among his family members, including Ayşe and Kemal. His facial features are notably softer than those of other characters around his age, emphasizing his gentle and introspective nature.
His typical attire consists of a blue-colored yelek (a short robe) adorned with golden triangular linings, paired with şalvar (traditional trousers) and an indigo inner shirt fastened with a striped sash. For formal occasions, he completes his look with a blue and gold turban, reflecting his noble status.
Personality
Ulema Beyazit is characterized by his calm and composed nature, standing in stark contrast to his temperamental older brother, Baraban. He is known for his high tolerance, rational thinking, and ability to make sound decisions without letting personal emotions cloud his judgment. These qualities make him a more effective and thoughtful leader compared to his impulsive sibling.
Beyazit holds a deep aversion to violence and is willing to take extraordinary measures to prevent or reduce its occurrence. His peaceful ideals are reflected in both his governance and diplomatic interactions. Possessing a friendly and approachable demeanor, he is able to connect with a wide range of individuals, including those who hold differing viewpoints such as Ishmael demonstrating his capacity for empathy and open-mindedness.
Abilities
In addition to his diplomatic and leadership qualities, Ulema Beyazit possesses practical combat skills. He is shown to have proficiency in swordsmanship, having personally trained Ayşe in preparation for her wedding ceremony.
Beyazit is also one of the 77 individuals in the Rumeliana region recognized for mastering the Şark Yay, a revolutionary long-range weapon originating from a small Far Eastern nation later conquered by Cinili. This mastery places him among an elite group capable of wielding the weapon with precision and effectiveness.
Furthermore, like his older brother Baraban, Beyazit has demonstrated competence in military leadership, commanding his own variant of the Yeniçeri, the elite standing army of the Stratocracy. His balanced approach to warfare combining strategic insight with direct martial capability underscores his versatility as both a ruler and a warrior.
History
Little is known about Ulema Beyazit’s early life, aside from the fact that he lost his father 13 years prior to the events of the main story, during a war between the Balt-Rhein Empire and the Türkiye Stratocracy. By that time, it is implied that his sister, Fatma, was already married, as she does not appear in any depictions of the family in later flashbacks or supplementary material.
Throughout much of his youth, Beyazit remained close to his older brother, Baraban, often accompanying him in both public and private matters. His devotion was so strong that he once claimed there was no one in the entire continent he loved more. Even after Baraban alienated his vassals through excessive cruelty, Beyazit continued to stand by him. A chapter title illustration shows Beyazit at Baraban’s side during a past meeting among the four stratocratic leaders, further highlighting his long-standing role in political affairs.
Sometime prior to the start of the main storyline, Beyazit rose to the position of kulak (a title of high administrative or military standing) within the Mizrak Stratocracy, marking the beginning of his formal leadership and influence.
