Jacqueline de Signore (ジャクリーヌ・ド・シニョレー, Jakurīnu do Shinyorē) is a character in the Gosick series. She is the wife of the current Superintendent-General of the Sauville Police and is known for her elegant presence and mysterious past. Jacqueline shares a deep, personal history with Grevil de Blois, who was her childhood friend and unrequited admirer.
Prior to her marriage, Jacqueline was wrongfully accused of murdering a veterinarian, an incident that deeply affected Grevil. In his desperation to clear her name, he turned to his younger sister, Victorique de Blois, for assistance, agreeing to her unusual terms in exchange for solving the case.
Background

Appearance in Anime
Jacqueline first met Grevil de Blois during their youth, when she was a modest girl who paid little attention to enhancing her appearance for the sake of others. Over time, their paths crossed more frequently, and the two began to speak and gradually formed a friendship. Unbeknownst to Jacqueline, Grevil developed romantic feelings for her as their bond grew closer.
Years later, Jacqueline became engaged to Superintendent-General Signore. During this period, she experienced personal heartbreak with the death of her beloved pet squirrel, Q-chan. Following the incident, she was shockingly accused of murdering the veterinarian who had treated her pet. The accusation devastated Jacqueline, and the situation was made worse by public prejudice and suspicion directed toward her.
To her surprise, the charges were mysteriously dropped after the real culprit voluntarily surrendered to the authorities. The sudden and unexplained resolution of the case left both Jacqueline and her husband puzzled. Unbeknownst to her, it was Grevil who secretly sought the help of his younger sister, Victorique, to solve the case though at a personal cost.
Appearance
Jacqueline de Signore is a refined woman with chocolate brown hair and matching brown eyes. She typically wears her hair styled in a neat bun, with two locks left to frame her face on either side. Her usual attire consists of a light brown coat layered over a pink undershirt, paired with a pleated skirt in a slightly darker shade, reflecting her composed and elegant sense of fashion.
Personality
Although an adult, Jacqueline de Signore often displays a youthful and bubbly disposition, frequently appearing cheerful and full of energy. Her lively behavior is accompanied by a short attention span and occasional stubbornness, much to the exasperation of her maid, Marion, who frequently struggles to keep her in check.
Beneath her cheerful exterior, however, Jacqueline hides moments of sadness and emotional vulnerability. Grevil de Blois, who knows her well, is aware of this side of her personality. Jacqueline tends to mask her sorrow through impulsive shopping and ill-timed attempts at humor, using these behaviors as a coping mechanism to conceal her deeper feelings.
Relationships
Grevil de Blois
Jacqueline shares a deep and longstanding connection with Grevil de Blois, whom she met during their youth. Though she initially saw him as a friend, Grevil secretly harbored romantic feelings for her. Their friendship played a significant role in shaping both of their lives. Even after Jacqueline became engaged to another man, Grevil continued to care for her deeply. When she was falsely accused of murder, Grevil sought the help of his sister Victorique to solve the case and clear Jacqueline’s name, an act he kept hidden from her, reflecting the strength of his lingering feelings.
Superintendent-General Signore
Jacqueline is married to the Superintendent-General of the Sauville Police, Signore. Despite the mysterious circumstances surrounding the resolution of her murder accusation, she remains devoted to her husband. Their relationship appears stable, though the unresolved questions about her past continue to linger in their lives.
Marion
Marion is Jacqueline’s personal maid and caretaker. While she is loyal and dutiful, she is often tested by Jacqueline’s high-spirited nature, impulsiveness, and short attention span. Marion’s grounded personality contrasts with Jacqueline’s flightiness, highlighting a comedic yet affectionate dynamic between the two.
