Mika comes from a middle-class Tokyo family and is heavily influenced by societal expectations of beauty, popularity, and romantic success. When Mitsumi transfers in from the countryside, Mika initially sees her as a rival or threat someone who, despite being unfashionable and awkward, is drawing attention from people Mika herself hopes to impress, especially Sousuke Shima. This insecurity drives Mika to act cold or passive-aggressive early on, but over time, she is forced to reflect on her own behavior and understand that popularity doesn’t always equate to happiness or fulfillment.

Mika is a stylish, petite girl with dyed light brown or reddish-blonde hair, often curled or styled with accessories to reflect the latest trends. Her large eyes are frequently highlighted with makeup, and her school uniform is often accessorized or altered to enhance her appearance.

  Mika’s role early in the series is marked by friction with Mitsumi, whom she sees as socially clueless yet inexplicably charming to the people Mika wants attention from—particularly Sousuke Shima. She views Mitsumi’s sincerity as naïve and tries to one-up her through appearance and attitude. However, when Mitsumi continues to treat Mika kindly, even when Mika is snide or dismissive, Mika’s defenses begin to erode. Rather than an outright rivalry, a slow-burn friendship emerges.

• Becoming Part of the Group
  As Mitsumi’s social circle expands to include Yuzuki, Makoto, and Sousuke, Mika finds herself naturally included. Though she continues to struggle with self-worth and comparison, her involvement with the group becomes more genuine over time. In key scenes, Mika begins to open up about her insecurities, especially when talking to Yuzuki or observing Mitsumi’s unshakable optimism. She still maintains a tough exterior but starts to appreciate the kind of emotional honesty she once dismissed.
