Saku Hagita (萩田 朔) is a supporting character in the anime and manga series Orange. He is a classmate of Naho Takamiya and one of the key members of the friend group that bands together to help change the fate of their friend, Kakeru Naruse. Like Naho and the others, Hagita receives a letter from his future self, urging him to take specific actions to prevent the tragic outcome awaiting Kakeru.

Saku Hagita has short brownish-grey hair and wears glasses, giving him a quiet and intellectual appearance. Compared to his friends Suwa and Kakeru, he is less muscular and has a leaner build, with an average height of 174 cm.
In the future timeline, Hagita is shown to have switched from glasses to contact lenses, reflecting subtle changes in his personal style as he matures. His blood type is AB.

Personality
Saku Hagita is generally a calm, quiet, and reserved individual, often serving as a steady presence within the friend group. Though he rarely raises his voice or expresses strong emotions, he is frequently the subject of playful teasing, especially from Azusa, who often mocks his awkward behavior. Despite his subdued personality, Hagita has a quirky and sometimes oblivious side, often unaware of how strange or blunt his actions and comments can be. Memorable examples include drawing fake abs on himself during the sports festival or openly stating that Suwa has feelings for Naho without hesitation.
He has a personal interest in reading manga, which adds to his introverted and thoughtful nature. As the story progresses into the future timeline, Hagita retains his composed attitude but shows signs of emotional growth and increased sensitivity toward his friends’ feelings. In Orange: Mirai, this development is evident when he supports Suwa by gently reminding him that, despite his lingering feelings about Kakeru, Naho is looking at Suwa now, encouraging him to move forward.
One of Hagita’s most notable and recurring traits is his stubbornness in acknowledging his feelings for Azusa. Even when it becomes clear to others that the two have mutual affection, he refuses to admit it outright. In Mirai, it is revealed that he and Azusa eventually begin dating, which prompts teasing from their friends especially Takako, who jokingly asks, “When’s the wedding?” Hagita hastily and flusteredly denies any such plans, maintaining his typical awkward charm.
Background
Before the events of Orange, Hagita is a fairly ordinary student with few notable connections outside of his small friend group. His development over the course of the series is tied closely to the emotional journey the group undergoes while trying to prevent Kakeru’s suicide.
Receiving the letter from his future self is a turning point for Hagita, motivating him to become more proactive in understanding Kakeru’s struggles and supporting the efforts to change the future.
Relationships
Azusa Murasaka
Saku Hagita shares a close and often humorous relationship with Azusa Murasaka, who frequently teases him throughout the series. Although Hagita consistently denies having romantic feelings for her, it becomes increasingly clear to their friends and even to Azusa herself that he harbors affection for her. Despite his awkwardness and reluctance to express his emotions, their bond gradually deepens over time.
In the future timeline, it is strongly implied that Hagita and Azusa are in a romantic relationship, having finally acknowledged their feelings for one another. In Orange: Mirai, their friends tease them about their relationship, with Takako jokingly asking, “When’s the wedding?” to which Hagita responds with flustered denial, suggesting that while marriage may not be immediate, their bond has clearly evolved into something meaningful.
Legacy
Saku Hagita may appear as comic relief, but his presence in Orange adds emotional balance, subtle humor, and quiet strength. His transformation from a socially awkward teen to a mature and emotionally insightful adult mirrors the story’s core message of growth, friendship, and second chances.
Whether through his unusual remarks or genuine concern, Hagita proves that even the quietest friends can have the loudest impact on the people around them.
