Douan Taketora (道安武虎, Dōan Taketora; Funimation: Doan Taketora) is a major antagonist in Plunderer. He is one of the Seven Legendary Red Barons, an elite group of warriors, and holds the title of “Heavy Baron” (重撃の撃墜王, Jūgeki no Gekitsui-ō). His title is translated differently across adaptations, being referred to as the “Ace of Crushing Blows” in Yen Press and the “Ace of Heavy Strikes” in Funimation’s version. Known for his immense strength and brutal fighting style, Douan plays a pivotal role in the conflicts within the series.
Appearance

Appearance in Anime
Douan Taketora is a tall and imposing man with a distinctive look. He has spiky red hair, with several portions most notably his bangs featuring a cyan tint. His eyes resemble those of a goat or sheep, with long eyelashes, adding to his unique and somewhat eerie appearance.
Taketora is typically seen wearing the standard military uniform, though he often leaves it unbuttoned, exposing his well-built physique. His intimidating presence naturally makes others wary of him, but despite his tough exterior, he harbors an insecurity about how others perceive his appearance.

Personality
Douan Taketora initially comes across as rude, aggressive, and dangerous, embodying the traits of a fearsome warrior. However, beneath his rough exterior lies a strong sense of loyalty and protectiveness toward those he cares about. When faced with individuals he deems wrongdoers, he does not hesitate to make them suffer, showing his ruthless nature in combat.
Despite openly claiming to hate Licht, Taketora has a habit of coming to his aid whenever necessary, hinting at a complex relationship between the two. His actions suggest that, deep down, he values Licht more than he is willing to admit, making their dynamic one of reluctant camaraderie rather than outright hostility.
Abilities and Power
As one of the Seven Legendary Red Barons, Douan Taketora wields immense power, making him one of the most formidable figures in Plunderer. His Count, a numerical representation of his strength, initially stands at 122,546, reflecting the number of people who have surrendered to him. However, during his battle against Clone Class A, he activates Schmelman’s Bloodlust Genes, causing his Count to skyrocket to 612,730.
Taketora’s signature ability, Heavy Strike (重撃, Jūgeki; Yen Press: Crushing Blows), grants him control over gravity, allowing him to manipulate its direction and intensity for both offensive and defensive purposes. It is one of the few known abilities capable of countering Licht Bach’s extreme speed. However, its effectiveness is limited, as it can only affect opponents whose Count is lower than his own.
His mastery over gravity-based techniques allows him to unleash a variety of powerful attacks. He can generate a crushing gravitational force over a targeted area using Gravitational Downforce and is immune to his own gravity-based abilities. His Gravity Shield enables him to create defensive barriers using gravitons, which he notably employs to protect himself and Hina from the Sakai brothers’ attack. Additionally, he can launch objects using gravitational force, a technique known as Gravity Projectile, which is exclusive to the anime adaptation. Other anime-exclusive abilities include Gravity Telekinesis, allowing him to manipulate objects by altering their gravitational field, and Gravity Bullets, which lets him fire multiple gravity-based projectiles in quick succession. He can also enhance the speed and strength of ranged attacks through Projectile Enhancement and, in his most devastating technique, he can create miniature black holes capable of consuming matter and energy with his Black Hole ability.
Like all Red Barons, Taketora can temporarily boost his Count by activating Schmelman’s Bloodlust Genes. However, unlike others, his activation process initially comes at the cost of his own life. Later, after learning the truth about Mizuka’s feelings toward him, his Bloodlust no longer has a fatal consequence, allowing him to harness its power freely.
In addition to his gravity-based abilities, Taketora possesses immense physical strength. Among the Seven Legendary Red Barons, he is noted by Gespenst to have the greatest raw strength, making him a truly formidable warrior. His combination of brute force and gravity manipulation makes him one of the most dangerous opponents in the series.
Relationships
Licht Bach (Rihito Sakai)
Douan’s greatest rival and ideological opposite. While Licht fights for justice and redemption, Douan fights for power and domination. Their clashes define some of the most intense battles in the series.
Other Red Barons
As one of the 7 Legendary Red Barons, Douan has a complicated history with the others, often viewing them as either weak or worthy opponents depending on their strength.
The Military & Government
Though he is a legendary warrior, Douan follows his own code, making him both an asset and a potential threat to the powers that be.
Legacy
Douan Taketora stands as one of the most menacing figures in Plunderer, representing the brutal, violent nature of the Red Barons at their worst. His overwhelming strength, sadistic tendencies, and unwavering belief in survival through power make him a force of destruction, challenging the protagonists both physically and ideologically. Whether seen as a merciless conqueror or an unshakable warrior, Douan remains one of the most fearsome and unforgettable antagonists in the series.
