Background

Maho Sakuramori suffered from a serious illness that posed a life-threatening risk, requiring her to remain hospitalized for an extended period. Due to her condition, she was unable to experience a normal childhood and longed for the freedom to go outside like other children. Her desire for an ordinary life was a constant source of motivation during her time in the hospital.

In an effort to find a cure for her illness, Maho was eventually sent to America to undergo specialized treatment. Her time abroad was dedicated to intensive medical care, giving her hope for a future where she could regain her independence.

By the end of Volume 3, Maho successfully recovered enough to regain mobility and lead a more normal life. With her health significantly improved, she returned to Japan, marking a new chapter in her life as she reintegrated into society and reunited with those she had left behind.

Her role shifts depending on the situation, sometimes she acts as a mediator, sometimes as an instigator, and sometimes as a mirror reflecting deeper truths.

She is frequently involved in key emotional turning points, either helping to break tension, forcing characters to confront their feelings, or supporting them in moments of crisis. Her blend of empathy, sharp perception, and playful defiance makes her a driving force behind many of the story’s character interactions.

Relationships

Akane Sakuramori
Maho holds a deep bond with her older sister, Akane, whom she cherishes dearly. During her time in the hospital, Akane was the only person Maho could truly rely on and play with, making her an irreplaceable presence in her life. After returning to Japan, Maho consistently tries to conceal her lingering health issues from Akane, pretending that she has fully recovered to avoid making her sister worry.

Upon discovering that Akane was the young girl Saito Houjou had met at his grandfather’s marriage party years ago, Maho becomes a strong supporter of her sister’s romantic relationship. She frequently encourages Akane to be honest with her feelings, believing that she deserves happiness in her love life.

Saito Houjou
Initially, Maho harbored resentment toward Saito Houjou due to the forced nature of his marriage with Akane. Believing their union lacked genuine love, she attempted to sabotage their relationship, often under the guise of playful teasing. She even went as far as trying to seduce Saito in an effort to separate them. However, after realizing that both Saito and Akane harbored feelings for each other, she apologized and promised not to interfere in a harmful way. Nevertheless, she continued to tease Saito in Akane’s presence, much to her sister’s frustration.

Over time, Maho developed genuine romantic feelings for Saito, but he dismissed them as another one of her teasing antics. Despite her true affection, Maho ultimately chose to step aside and support Akane’s happiness, putting her sister’s well-being before her own desires.

In the epilogue, during Saito and Akane’s wedding, it is revealed that Maho still harbors feelings for him and refuses to give up entirely. In a bold move, she suggests that Saito form a harem consisting of herself, Akane, Shisei, and Himari, an idea that the latter two also support.

Shisei Houjou & Himari Ishikura
Although their exact relationship dynamics are not deeply explored, both Shisei Houjou and Himari Ishikura appear to be close acquaintances of Maho. Their interactions become more relevant in the epilogue, where they support Maho’s harem suggestion regarding Saito.

Tenryuu Houjou
In Volume 10, it is revealed that Maho has Tenryuu Houjou’s contact information, and the two frequently converse, mainly about her grandmother and the relationship between Saito and Akane. Maho expresses that Tenryuu treats her exceptionally well, to the point where she feels as if they were blood-related. This revelation upsets Saito, who complains that his own grandfather seems to treat Maho better than him.
