Ragna

Ragna (ラグナ, Raguna) is the main protagonist and one of the titular characters of Ragna Crimson. Initially, he was a weak Dragon Hunter who followed the immensely talented hunter prodigy, Leonica. Despite his lack of strength, Ragna deeply admired Leonica and secretly trained in hopes of one day becoming strong enough to protect her, rather than always relying on her protection.

Background

Side by side, Crimson and Ragna stand together

Ragna’s life has been shaped by tragedy and relentless misfortune, largely due to his connection with Dragons. When he was three years old, his parents were devoured by Dragons, leaving him orphaned. He was later taken in by his relatives, but they too fell victim to Dragon attacks. Even when he was sold to a wealthy family, the mansion he lived in was burned down by Dragons.

Because of the recurring disasters surrounding him, Ragna became known as cursed, with rumors spreading that he might even be working for the Dragons.

One day, while being beaten by Sykes Charluke and his gang, who blamed him for the destruction of one of their family mansions, Leonica intervened and rescued him. Seeing something special in him a hidden strength for always surviving these tragedies Leonica invited Ragna to become a Dragon Hunter. She also believed that his unnatural ability to attract Dragons could be useful in their hunts.

When Ragna tried to warn her about the dangers, Leonica dismissed his fears, stating that only those stronger than Dragons deserved to survive, and she would prove that to him.

From that point onward, the two began hunting Dragons together. However, the truth was that Leonica did all the fighting, while Ragna took care of logistical tasks like setting traps and gathering supplies.

Despite his self-perceived weakness, Ragna never stopped secretly training, determined to stay by Leonica’s side for as long as possible. He never expected to surpass her, nor did he believe he could ever reach her level of power. His only hope was to remain useful to her at least until the inevitable day when a Dragon would finally kill him.

Appearance

Ragna has a lean yet well-built physique, reflecting his years of rigorous training and combat experience. He has short, silver hair and light cyan eyes, giving him a striking and somewhat ethereal appearance.

Initially, Ragna wore a full armor set, likely for protection due to his lack of strength at the time. However, after obtaining the Silver Martial Arts, he abandoned heavy armor in favor of lighter clothing and boots, which better suited his agile and fast-paced fighting style.

A signature part of his outfit is his thick, long cloak with an extended high collar, which he typically wears over his shoulders. However, when engaging in combat, he ties the cloak around his hips to avoid restricting his movements.

After joining the Sun Cult, his cloak was modified to feature the Sun Cult’s emblem on the back, signifying his new allegiance. Additionally, Ragna now wears a single earring, marking a subtle but noticeable change in his appearance.

Personality

Ragna is naturally weak-willed and submissive, often following the lead of others and allowing himself to be ordered around. His tragic past has shaped his mentality, making him deeply self-loathing and cynical about his own existence. He genuinely believes himself to be cursed, blaming himself for all the misfortunes in his life and considering his weakness the reason for the suffering of those around him.

Due to this, Ragna struggles with social interactions and feels physically sick when surrounded by large groups of people. This may stem from a subconscious attempt to distance himself from others, fearing that his “curse” might bring disaster upon them.

After gaining the power of his future self, Ragna becomes entirely fixated on one goal—exterminating all Dragons without hesitation or remorse. His once uncertain and timid personality is now replaced by an unwavering determination to destroy every last Dragon, leaving no room for personal desires or attachments.

Despite his brutal resolve, Ragna does not believe that the end justifies the means. However, he sees those who choose to follow him as either people whose deaths he would not care about or individuals who cannot die at all.

This mindset reflects his detached and fatalistic approach to relationships, as he no longer seeks to protect others for their sake but instead distances himself emotionally to remain focused on his mission.

Powers & Abilities

Ragna possesses immense strength due to his fusion with the silver blade and mastery over the Silver Aura. His raw physical power allows him to obliterate superior dragons with his bare hands and generate massive explosions with a single punch. His strength is so overwhelming that he can crush mountains and shatter landscapes with sheer force. His combat speed is equally impressive, as he can dodge and outspeed supersonic opponents, such as Temruogtaf in his hunting mode. As his abilities evolved, he reached even greater speeds, allowing him to overpower Chimera, a being capable of surpassing the Borealis, the Sunblade Laser, and even Woltekamui, who moves at the speed of lightning. During his battle against Kamui, even when exhausted and on the verge of collapse, Ragna displayed the ability to effortlessly intercept the Lightning Claw at point-blank range, an attack moving at lightning speed. When wielding Starlia’s Silver Comet Sword, he gained a further speed enhancement, allowing him to keep up with a dragonified Kamui. His reflexes are so advanced that he can perceive and evade light-based attacks, such as Glestnowak’s Laser Array and the Particle Beam Cannon.

Ragna’s durability and resistance to magic are equally formidable. His fusion with the Silver Aura makes him highly resistant to both physical and magical attacks. He has withstood blows strong enough to obliterate mountains, such as Dragon Kamui’s Lightning Claw and Glestnowak’s Particle Beam Cannon, which ravaged an entire region. His resistance to magic is so profound that he can completely nullify or endure powerful magical abilities, including Bagram’s reality-warping existence erasure, Nebulim’s Purge Barrier, Ultimatia’s Telekinesis, and Olto Zora’s Chemicals Magic, which causes instant death, insanity, or lethal poisoning. According to Ultimatia, only world-rending levels of magic power can effectively harm him. Additionally, he can transform his body into a silver blade, further reinforcing his defenses.

As a Master Dragon Hunter, Ragna has inherited the knowledge and experience of 32 years of dragon hunting from his future self. His combat instincts, reflexes, and efficiency make him an unstoppable force, allowing him to effortlessly dismantle dragons that would otherwise be considered untouchable. His Silverine Physiology gives him the ability to radiate silverine aura naturally, allowing him to modify his body to take on properties of pure silverine metal. With this ability, he can harden his body for increased durability or reshape his arms into blades to enhance his combat effectiveness. His mastery over Silverine Aura Manipulation allows him to amplify his silver aura, freeze and nullify magic, and even affect the byproducts of magic, such as power, temperature, and sound. He can also infuse objects with silverine properties, granting them immunity to magical effects.

Ragna’s Silverine Battle Arts is an advanced anti-dragon combat style, developed by his future self and refined through decades of relentless dragon hunting. This technique seamlessly integrates hand-to-hand combat, advanced swordplay, and projectile-based attacks, allowing Ragna to systematically annihilate dragons with overwhelming precision and lethality. In moments of extreme exhaustion and despair, Ragna unlocks his Scarred Form, a transformation that occurs when he reaches the same level of suffering as his future self. This state is not something he can activate at will but is triggered when he is pushed beyond his physical and emotional limits. In this form, his body becomes covered in scars, mirroring those of his future self, and he is able to overcome exhaustion completely, adapting to extreme fatigue as if it were second nature.

Ragna’s Future Knowledge is a vital asset, as he possesses the memories and battle experience of his future self. However, these memories are not freely accessible he can only unlock them when encountering specific clues or key events. This allows him to predict enemy strategies, uncover hidden weaknesses, and recall critical survival techniques when necessary. He has also inherited Dragon Blood due to the failed dragonification ritual performed by Ultimatia on his future self. While the transformation was unsuccessful, traces of dragonic essence remain in his body, granting him partial affiliation with the Winged Bloodline. The full extent of these latent dragonic abilities remains unknown, as even Ragna himself is unaware of how deeply they might influence him in the future.

One of Ragna’s most powerful transformations is Silver Comet Sword Mode, which activates when he unleashes the full power of Starlia’s final sword. This form grants him a massive increase in all attributes, including strength, speed, and durability. His combat techniques and abilities are also significantly enhanced, allowing him to perform devastating silverine-based attacks with extreme precision. In this state, his arm transforms into a massive silverine blade, maximizing the potency of all his strikes. Additionally, he gains the ability to generate Silver Aura Blades, which function both as offensive and defensive tools. These energy-infused blades enable him to clash evenly with the Thunder Claw of a Dragonified Kamui. At peak power, Silver Comet Sword Mode allows Ragna to fight at 120% of his normal strength, making him one of the most formidable warriors in existence. In this state, he possesses inexhaustible energy, allowing him to fight for extended periods without experiencing fatigue.

Ragna’s relentless determination, unparalleled combat ability, and ever-growing arsenal of techniques make him a terrifying force against dragons. His journey is one of constant struggle, driven by an unyielding desire to eradicate all dragons and ensure that no one else suffers the same fate he once did.

Legacy

Ragna’s journey in Ragna Crimson is one of growth, tragedy, and vengeance, making him one of the most compelling protagonists in dark fantasy manga. His unwavering determination to change fate and eliminate all Dragons sets him apart as a relentless warrior who refuses to back down, no matter the cost.

With the power of his future self, the knowledge of what is to come, and the will to defy destiny, Ragna stands as humanity’s greatest weapon against the Dragon threat, leading a battle that will determine the fate of the world itself.
