Appearance in Anime
Light Novel
Before her first deployment in the Rhine Campaign, Viktoriya was a naïve and inexperienced recruit, much like other teenagers her age. However, after witnessing the brutal realities of war, she matured quickly, dedicating herself to improving as a combat mage in order to keep up with her superior, Tanya von Degurechaff.
Despite the hardships of war, Viktoriya rarely complains, though she struggles to fully adjust to the harsh military lifestyle imposed by Tanya. As a competent adjutant, she efficiently assists Tanya with administrative and battlefield responsibilities. While she remains pragmatic in combat, she is well-liked by the soldiers of the 203rd Aerial Mage Battalion, forming good relationships with her comrades.
Anime
In the anime adaptation, Viktoriya is depicted as more lighthearted and cheerful compared to her novel counterpart. She is carefree, friendly, and optimistic, often acting as a counterbalance to Tanya’s ruthless demeanor. Unlike Tanya, Viktoriya is a believer in God, which further distinguishes her perspective on the war.
She deeply cares for her comrades and remains loyal to Tanya, though she sometimes finds herself intimidated by her commander’s temper. Despite witnessing the horrors of battle, she maintains a positive outlook and often expresses excitement over simple pleasures, particularly when discussing food. Her naïve and slightly childish tendencies make her more emotionally expressive, though she remains committed to her duties.
Manga
The manga adaptation of Viktoriya remains closer to her light novel depiction, presenting her as a pragmatic yet emotional character. While she shows greater emotional vulnerability in front of Tanya, she is also more assertive when carrying out orders. Her sense of duty is evident, and she displays a strict, professional demeanor when necessary, particularly when overseeing military operations.
Appearance
Viktoriya Ivanovna Serebryakov’s appearance varies across different adaptations of Youjo Senki: Saga of Tanya the Evil, with notable differences in hair color, eye color, and hairstyle.
In the anime adaptation, Viktoriya has long brown hair, large blue eyes, and a round face. She is depicted with a slender yet curvy physique, featuring a busty figure and fair skin.
In the original light novel, Viktoriya’s design differs significantly. She has shorter blonde hair, with bangs slanted to her left side. Her eye color is green, and her build is slender, aligning more closely with the typical depiction of an Imperial officer.
The manga version retains most aspects of her light novel appearance, except for her hair color, which is brown, and her eyes, which are blue, making her appearance more similar to her anime counterpart.
Regardless of adaptation, Viktoriya is typically seen wearing her Imperial Army officer uniform, even in civilian settings. During combat missions, she dons a battle suit, similar to the standard gear worn by members of the 203rd Aerial Mage Battalion.
Plot
Viktoriya Ivanovna Serebryakov was born in the Russy Federation during the reign of the Czarist regime in Moskva. Amid the civil war, her family fled the country, seeking refuge in the Empire to escape the advancing Red Army. Viktoriya claims to have forgotten most of her childhood memories, with her only lingering recollection being her family’s desperate flight from the conflict, devoid of any happy moments.
Due to her innate magical talent, Viktoriya was conscripted into the Imperial Army and enrolled in cadet school in 1923. Upon completion of her training, she was appointed as a Corporal, serving under Second Lieutenant Tanya von Degurechaff alongside Harald von Vist and Kurst von Walhorf.
Recognizing her potential, First Lieutenant Schwarzkopf and Second Lieutenant Degurechaff recommended her for Officer Candidate School (OCS), where she underwent an accelerated officer training program. Following her graduation, she was assigned as Tanya’s adjutant, a decision influenced by their previous working relationship and shared gender within the military hierarchy.
As part of her ongoing training, Viktoriya joined the V601 training unit and was subjected to rigorous retraining under Tanya’s command in the Alpen Mountains Zugspitze Training Area. After successfully completing her training, she was officially inducted into the 203rd Aerial Mage Battalion, where she would go on to participate in multiple major military campaigns.
Role in Youjo Senki
Viktoriya serves as Tanya’s adjutant, acting as her aide-de-camp, strategist, and battlefield support officer. She helps coordinate operations, relay commands, and manage logistics, ensuring that the battalion functions effectively.
Unlike many other officers, Viktoriya has firsthand experience with Tanya’s merciless tactics, yet she remains loyal and dedicated. While she is often visibly shocked by Tanya’s cold-blooded decisions, she understands that Tanya’s brilliance and strategies keep them alive.
Though she does not directly challenge Tanya’s orders, Viktoriya serves as a subtle moral compass, providing a humanizing perspective in contrast to Tanya’s pragmatic and brutal logic. Her optimism and level-headedness help stabilize the battalion, offering a sense of humanity amid the horrors of war.
Through her experiences on the battlefield, Viktoriya grows from a simple conscript to a respected officer, demonstrating her ability to lead under pressure and make critical decisions in combat.
Relationships
Tanya von Degurechaff – Viktoriya holds deep admiration and respect for Tanya von Degurechaff, whom she regards as one of the most patriotic and capable soldiers of the Empire. Despite Tanya’s often ruthless and authoritarian demeanor, Viktoriya remains loyal and obedient, rarely questioning her orders or complaining about her harsh methods. However, she occasionally fears Tanya, especially when she displays aggressive or intimidating behavior toward her subordinates.
In the manga, during her first encounter with Tanya, Viktoriya was immediately struck by the contrast between Tanya’s delicate and youthful appearance and the aura of authority and maturity she exudes. This unsettling contrast led her to internally liken Tanya to a vampire.
Vooren Grantz – In the anime adaptation, Viktoriya appears to share a close bond with Vooren Grantz, with some scenes suggesting they may have developed romantic feelings for one another. However, this aspect of their relationship is not explicitly explored in the light novel or manga.
Legacy
Viktoriya Ivanovna Serebryakov represents loyalty, adaptability, and perseverance in Youjo Senki. Unlike Tanya, who is cold and calculating, Viktoriya serves as a more relatable and humanizing figure, offering a glimpse into the emotional toll of war.
Her journey from a mere conscript to an officer and company commander showcases her growth as a soldier and leader, making her an essential character in the Empire’s military machine.
Despite the brutality and chaos of war, Viktoriya remains one of the most grounded and steadfast characters, proving that even in the darkest times, resilience and loyalty can shine through.
