“Flame Emperor” Sabo, is the Revolutionary Army’s chief of staff, making him the second-highest-ranking member of the organization, outranked only by its Supreme Commander, Monkey D. Dragon. He is also the sworn brother of Monkey D. Luffy and the late Portgas D. Ace, sharing an unbreakable bond with both. Sabo is a key figure in the Revolutionary Army’s efforts against the World Government and carries Ace’s legacy after consuming the Mera Mera no Mi.
Background
Appearance in Anime
Born into nobility in the Goa Kingdom, Sabo was the son of Outlook III and Didit, who imposed their aristocratic expectations upon him. Disillusioned by the corruption of nobility, Sabo ran away at the age of 10 and lived as a vagabond in Gray Terminal. It was during this time that he met and formed a brotherly bond with Ace and Luffy, dreaming of freedom and adventure.
Sabo attempted to escape the Goa Kingdom by setting sail on his own, but his ship was destroyed by the World Noble Saint Jalmack. Dragon, leader of the Revolutionary Army, saved him from the attack, but the trauma caused Sabo to lose his memories. Without recollection of his past, Sabo devoted himself to the Revolutionary Army, rising to the rank of chief of staff.
A decade later, Sabo regained his memories after learning about Ace’s death, which reignited his connection to his brothers and their shared dreams. Two years later, Sabo reunited with Luffy during the Dressrosa Arc and honored Ace’s legacy by inheriting his Devil Fruit, the Mera Mera no Mi.
Appearance
Sabo is a tall, lean man with wavy blond hair and a distinctive scar running across his left eye, a mark from his childhood incident. His signature outfit includes a formal black top hat with goggles, a cravat, and a long coat, blending elegance with practicality. His revolutionary attire emphasizes his role as a leader while also nodding to his adventurous spirit. After acquiring the Mera Mera no Mi, his fiery abilities often complement his striking appearance.
Personality
Sabo is intelligent, charismatic, and fiercely loyal, embodying the ideals of freedom and justice. Unlike his fiery brother Ace and carefree Luffy, Sabo is more level-headed and strategic, making him a key figure in the Revolutionary Army’s operations. Despite his calm demeanor, he is deeply compassionate and protective of those he loves, particularly Luffy. His resolve to protect the weak and overthrow the oppressive World Government aligns with his personal experiences of injustice and inequality.
