Kofuku’s hair is a delightful shade of baby pink, puffy and voluminous, curling inwards at the ends and adorned with playful flyaways that give her a carefree vibe.

Her outfit, reminiscent of a schoolgirl’s uniform, features a crisp white collared shirt complemented by a pink checkered tie. This is paired with a matching miniskirt, enhancing her youthful and lively appearance. On cooler days, she dons a cozy beige sweater over her ensemble, adding a touch of comfort to her stylish look. Standing at 163.48 cm (5’4″), Kofuku’s presence is both enchanting and approachable, making her a memorable figure in the Noragami series.

As the Goddess of Poverty, Kofuku has long been met with disdain and scorn, resulting in her not being given a name for much of her existence. This societal rejection also prevented her from owning a shinki, as doing so would amplify her powers of misfortune, potentially leading to greater chaos and destruction.

However, fate took a whimsical turn when Kofuku encountered Daikoku, a figure who caught her eye while standing quietly in a corner. It was love at first sight for Kofuku, and she immediately claimed him as her own. Recognizing her small and endearing presence, Daikoku decided it was time for her to have a name, bestowing upon her the title “Kofuku.”

Despite their happiness, the couple faced challenges. Daikoku, yearning for a child of his own, adopted a shinki child named Daigo. Unfortunately, their joy was short-lived as Daigo struggled with the painful reality of never aging alongside his peers. His distress affected Kofuku, leading Daikoku to unintentionally blight her. In an effort to resolve the situation, Daikoku asked Yato to sever the ties between him and Daigo. However, using a mere knife, Yato’s attempt only served to prolong their connection, prompting the couple to learn to move forward together. As for Daigo, he now resides in the heavens under a different name, cared for but apart from his adoptive parents.

Kofuku’s knack for inadvertently causing misfortune reached a peak during the euphoric Japanese Bubble Era. An incident involving a drunken Kokki resulted in the summoning of calamity, prompting a furious Ebisu to impose legal agreements that barred Kofuku from entering Takamagahara. This twist of fate solidified her reputation as a chaotic yet lovable figure in the divine realm.

Despite her classification as a nameless goddess largely overlooked by worshippers, Kofuku is notorious among her divine peers, primarily due to her exceptionally potent abilities.

• Misfortune: Kofuku possesses the uncanny ability to attract bad luck and misfortune, creating a ripple effect that impacts those around her. This power can lead to catastrophic events, such as job losses and accidents. Remarkably, Kofuku’s ability can negate the immense Good Fortune of the Seven Gods of Fortune, leaving even deities like Ōkuninushi and Ebisu powerless against her whims. As a result, Bishamonten is cautious about crossing her path, understanding that Kofuku’s misfortune is as unpredictable as it is powerful.

• Bore: Armed with Kokki, Kofuku can open “vents,” which are concentrated pockets of gloom serving as gateways betweenYomiand the Near Shore. These vents allow for the passage of ayakashi, gods, humans, and shinki in both directions. To activate this ability, she must point Kokki toward the earth and call out “Bore!”—a command that can also be accompanied by an extended incantation. However, her control over these vents is not absolute, as Izanami possesses the power to manipulate the structure of Yomi and seal its exits at will.

• Vent Prediction: Kofuku has an intuitive knack for predicting the emergence of vents before they appear. This ability manifests without the need for divination ceremonies, suggesting either a form of precognition or an extension of her misfortune that influences the world around her. While it’s uncertain whether this talent stems from foresight or chaos, it undeniably enhances her already formidable reputation.

Known Shinki
Kofuku is unique among the gods in the series, as she utilizes the On-yomi reading for both the human name and the vessel name of her shinki. This distinction adds an intriguing layer to her character, further emphasizing her unconventional nature.

Daikoku
As Kofuku’s sole shinki, Daikoku shares a long and storied history with her. From their first encounter, Kofuku was smitten, claiming it was love at first sight, and she eagerly made him her shinki. Her affection for Daikoku is profound; she seeks to ensure his happiness, even going so far as to adopt a shinki child named Daigo to fulfill that desire—though she had to release him soon after. Kofuku can be a bit miffed when Daikoku restricts her from visiting public spaces due to her reputation for bringing bad luck. Yet, she treasures their time together, frequently organizing “dates,” like their outing to Capyper Land. Ultimately, Kofuku’s only wish is for Daikoku to look after her in her next life, valuing their connection above all else.

Yato
While Kofuku often introduces Yato as her boyfriend, their relationship is more playful than serious. She affectionately dubs him “Yatty” and befriended him after hearing some “nasty rumors” about him. Their shared penchant for mischief fosters a strong camaraderie, although Yato sometimes finds her misfortune annoying, leading him to shoo her away during work. Their bond is built on mutual trust; Yato even instructs Hiyori to seek refuge with Kofuku and Daikoku if trouble arises. Kofuku is fiercely protective of Yato, going so far as to threaten Bishamon on his behalf. When Yato goes missing, Kofuku remains unperturbed, knowing his unpredictable nature, but she leaps at the chance to support him whenever possible, including offering her home as a safe haven for him and Yukine.

Hiyori Iki
Upon meeting Hiyori, Kofuku quickly became intrigued by the human girl and affectionately began calling her “Hiyorin.” Their friendship blossomed, with Kofuku teasing Hiyori about her relationship with Yato, often poking fun at her embarrassment. With her playful nature, Kofuku sometimes jokingly compares their bust sizes, adding to the lighthearted dynamic. Though Hiyori was initially cautious of Kofuku’s status as a goddess of poverty, she grew to trust Kofuku deeply, recognizing her as a reliable ally.

Yukine
Although Kofuku and Yukine have had limited interaction, she refers to him as “Yukki” and welcomed him into her home with open arms. Yukine enjoys living with Kofuku and Daikoku, and Kofuku finds him adorable. Her maternal instincts shine through when she expresses concern for Yukine during his punishment or when she fears he might leave Yato.

Bishamon
Kofuku holds a special fondness for Bishamon, affectionately calling her “Bisha.” She delights in visiting her to predict bad omens, and their relationship is built on mutual respect. Kofuku is aware of the complicated history between Bishamon and Yato, but she insists it’s no longer her concern. Nonetheless, she does not hesitate to threaten Bishamon should anything happen to Yato. Kofuku also played a crucial role in assisting Bishamon rescue Ebisu from Izanami, showcasing her loyalty to her friends.

Yusuke Urasawa
In her past, Kofuku had a brief yet innocent relationship with a human named Yusuke Urasawa. However, this connection nearly drove him to despair as he faced disgrace, illustrating the potential consequences of her misfortune.
