“You do not need to know who the victor is in a battle using martial arts. That is the beauty of this art.“ |
Appearance
Bang is an elderly man with a slight hunch in his posture. He has light blue eyes, tan skin, and spiked white hair, accompanied by thick white eyebrows and a matching mustache. Despite his advanced age, Bang maintains a lean and muscular physique, a testament to his lifelong martial arts training. His body is also marked with numerous scars, indicative of the many battles he has fought over the years.
Bang’s typical attire consists of a long-sleeved black martial arts jumpsuit, light-colored pants, and Tai Chi slippers. Despite his age, his physical condition allows him to display incredible strength and agility. During his fight against Elder Centipede, he sustained additional scars on his left shoulder due to exposure to the monster’s gastric acid while carrying Genos.

Personality
Bang’ stern demeanor.
Bang presents himself as a serious and disciplined individual, though his true nature is said to be surprisingly playful. He maintains a calm demeanor even in dire situations, such as when he remains unshaken by the threat of a Dragon-level meteor falling on Z-City. Unlike many heroes, Bang prefers to be addressed by his real name rather than his hero alias, “Silver Fang.”
Bang is deeply committed to the ethics of heroism and has a strong moral compass. He has openly criticized other S-Class heroes for being self-centered and ignoring larger disasters, as seen when they prioritized their own concerns over the crisis in Z-City. He believes that heroes must take responsibility for their actions and accept that their work may often go unappreciated. Bang empathized with Saitama when the latter was wrongly blamed by Tanktop Black Hole, though he did not intervene, acknowledging that heroes frequently face such hardships.
His disillusionment with the Hero Association is also evident, as he criticizes its shift away from its original purpose during a fishing trip with Atomic Samurai. He is repulsed by the unhealthy culture within the Association, particularly the competitive, self-serving attitude that some heroes exhibit.
Bang is constantly seeking new disciples to carry on his martial arts legacy, particularly after losing all but one of his former students to Garou, his former top disciple. He is particularly eager to recruit Saitama and Genos, seeing their potential. Despite his age, Bang remains deeply invested in protecting civilians and maintaining moral integrity, which earns him respect among other heroes.
Bang has a complicated relationship with Garou, for whom he cares deeply. He fears for Garou’s fate, worrying that his former disciple will fully transform into a monster, a process Bang believes is irreversible. Despite his feelings of contempt for the path Garou has taken, Bang still hopes to redeem him, lamenting how far his former student has fallen. During their final confrontation, Bang resolves to bring Garou back from his monstrous path and train him properly once more.
In his youth, Bang was far more arrogant and destructive, much like Garou. His martial arts style at the time was centered on offensive power, and he sought out strong fighters to defeat in order to prove his superiority. His arrogance even extended to challenging his older brother, Bomb, with the intent to kill. However, after being defeated by Bomb, Bang was humbled and shifted his focus to perfecting his martial art, Water Stream Rock Smashing Fist, as a defensive style. He now seeks to leave behind his violent past, which is evident during his battle with Garou, when he refuses to use his old, destructive technique, the Exploding Heart Release Fist, even though it could have given him an advantage.
History
Bomb and Bang fighting.
In his youth, Bang was a ruffian who recklessly sought out strong opponents, defeating them in brutal fights and often leaving them hospitalized. Disgusted by his younger brother’s violent behavior, Bomb decided to confront Bang and put an end to his rampage. Before their fight, Bomb observed that while Bang believed he had gained great power, he had not yet conquered his own inner flaws. Bomb defeated Bang in the ensuing battle and advised him to “cool off,” leaving him to reflect on his actions. This loss humbled Bang and helped him realize the error of his ways, prompting him to create a new, defense-oriented martial arts style. Inspired by Bomb’s example, Bang opened his own dojo, focusing on teaching his students the newly created Water Stream Rock Smashing Fist.
Over the years, Bomb kept a watchful eye on his brother, taking pride in Bang’s transformation from a destructive fighter to a disciplined martial arts master. Bang’s dojo, passed down through generations, became the center for his teachings. While Bomb mastered the Whirlwind Iron Cutting Fist , Bang developed his Water Stream Rock Smashing Fist after rigorous training under his brother’s guidance, earning his many scars from the process of mastering the technique. By the age of 30, Bang had become a nearly unstoppable force in the martial arts world. Together, Bang and Bomb trained extensively and developed powerful combination attacks, showcasing their mastery of their respective martial arts.
Bang once entered theSuper Fightmartial arts tournament to promote his dojo, where he emerged victorious, further cementing his reputation as one of the greatest martial artists.
Bang, the B-Class rank 77 hero, watching his students train.
Before the start of the series, Bang was initially ranked 77th in B-Class within the Hero Association. However, after the creation of the S-Class, he was promoted due to his exceptional abilities, eventually ranking as the 3rd highest S-Class hero.
At the height of his dojo’s success, Bang had many students, withGaroubeing his top disciple. However, Garou grew disillusioned with traditional heroism and began to adopt more violent and rebellious philosophies. One day, while Bang was away, Garou rampaged through the dojo, injuring several students, includingSour Face, and incapacitating many others. In response to this betrayal, Bang beat Garou and expelled him from the dojo. The incident resulted in the loss of nearly all of Bang’s students, with the exception ofCharanko, who remained loyal to his master.
Hero Association
Saitama
Bang first met Saitama when a giant meteor threatened to destroy Z-City. Impressed by Saitama’s immense strength, Bang repeatedly attempted to recruit him into his dojo, though Saitama consistently declined. Despite this, the two have developed a friendly relationship, occasionally inviting each other to cookouts. Bang holds Saitama in high regard, even telling Atomic Samurai that Saitama is far stronger than the swordsman’s disciples and likely stronger than Bang himself.
Genos
Bang and Genos get along well, with Bang frequently offering advice to the younger hero. Genos respects Bang for his martial arts skills and high rank within the Hero Association. Like Saitama, Genos has been the target of Bang’s recruitment efforts, which has sometimes caused frustration on Genos’s part. Bang often worries about Genos’s reckless nature, lamenting that the cyborg faces monsters far more powerful than himself due to his youth and eagerness to prove himself.
Tatsumaki
Bang respects Tatsumaki’s abilities but is often irritated by her immaturity and violent tendencies. Despite her higher rank, Tatsumaki acknowledges Bang’s authority, having stood down during the Dark Matter Thieves’ invasion when Bang intervened. During the Monster Association raid, Bang recognized her as the “leader” of their group, acknowledging her crucial role in the operation.
Atomic Samurai
Atomic Samurai holds deep respect for Bang, being the only hero he openly acknowledges as a superior. While Atomic Samurai’s respect stems from Bang’s strength and higher rank, their relationship is friendly, with a hint of one-sided rivalry on the swordsman’s part. Bang, however, does not view Atomic Samurai as a rival and sees him as a peer. The two often go fishing together and discuss how, despite their age, they remain sharp and strong. Atomic Samurai expressed concern for Bang when he was injured during the fight against Melzargard.
Metal Bat
Bang sees potential in Metal Bat, a young S-Class hero. According to audiobooks, the two once sparred in Bang’s dojo at the request of Sitch. Initially reluctant, Metal Bat eventually agreed, and Bang used his Water Stream Rock Smashing Fist to dodge and redirect Metal Bat’s powerful swings. Bang was surprised by the strength behind Metal Bat’s attacks, especially when a single deflected swing blew out a wall of the dojo. Their sparring session was interrupted by a phone call from Metal Bat’s sister, Zenko.
Superalloy Darkshine
Bang and Superalloy Darkshine share mutual respect for one another as fellow S-Class heroes.
Others
Garou
Bang trained Garou and taught him everything he knows about martial arts. After Garou attacked his fellow students and went rogue, Bang expelled him from the dojo. Upon hearing that Garou had started hunting heroes, Bang enlisted the help of his brother Bomb to stop him. During their confrontation in S-City, Bang defeated Garou and berated him for his actions, though he was amazed at Garou’s resilience. Bang advised Garou to stop fighting, worried about his former student’s injuries.
Bang continued to show concern for Garou even during the battle against Phoenix Man, when Genos attempted to eliminate both Garou and Phoenix Man with his Spiral Incineration Cannon. Although he couldn’t stop Genos, Bang’s concern for his former student was clear.
Despite the Hero Association’s reluctance to involve him in the fight against the Monster Association, Bang actively searched for Garou within the association’s headquarters, fearing that Garou had transformed into a monster. Upon finding Garou in Z-City, Bang was distraught to see his former disciple in a monstrous form, but he resolved to reach out to him. During their battle, Bang expressed guilt for neglecting his students in favor of his hero duties and took responsibility for Garou’s fall. Bang even offered to quit being a hero if it meant he could reconcile with Garou and become his teacher once more.
When the heroes debated what to do with Garou after his defeat, Bang, along with Metal Bat, King, and Saitama, defended Garou and prevented him from taking his own life. Despite Garou’s villainous acts, Bang still cares deeply for him, as evidenced by the different tone of his punches when he expelled Garou from the dojo.
Charanko
After Garou’s rampage, Charanko became Bang’s only remaining disciple. Charanko holds immense pride in his master and frequently defends him when others underestimate Bang. However, when Bang decided to confront Garou, he made the difficult decision to expel Charanko from the dojo, a decision that weighed heavily on him.
Suicho
Little is known about Bang’s relationship with Suicho, though Suicho’s grandson, Suiryu, has mentioned that Suicho and Bang were once friends.
Family
Bomb
Bomb is Bang’s older brother, and the two share a strong bond built on mutual respect. In the present, they work well together, particularly during their pursuit of Garou, where Bomb supported Bang in his efforts to stop their former disciple. Bang greatly values his brother’s help and acknowledges Bomb’s martial prowess, particularly appreciating Bomb’s willingness to join him in critical battles.
However, their relationship was not always as amicable. In the past, Bang was far more arrogant and condescending towards Bomb. Though there was no outright hostility between them, Bang’s reckless fighting sprees led Bomb to confront him. During their confrontation, Bang was willing to kill Bomb to prove his superiority, while Bomb sought only to humble his younger brother. After losing to Bomb, Bang realized that his brother held no murderous intent against him, which led him to become more humble. This defeat prompted Bang to develop a defensive fighting style and, years later, to become a hero, in part to demonstrate to Bomb how much he had changed.
During their confrontation with Garou, Bang sought to redeem his former disciple while also proving to Bomb that he could embody the same principles of discipline and humility that Bomb had taught him. Bomb fully supported Bang during the battle, reaffirming their strong relationship.
Abilities and Powers
As the former third-ranked S-Class hero, Bang is considered one of the most powerful fighters in the Hero Association. His exceptional combat skills and martial arts mastery make him a legend in the martial arts world, where he is idolized and regarded as a near-godlike figure. Despite being past his physical prime, his martial arts prowess and immense physical power allow him to remain one of the most formidable close-combat fighters among the heroes. He is also renowned for having created the martial art Water Stream Rock Smashing Fist , a style he taught to Garou, who acknowledged that even Demon-level threats like Bug God and Royal Ripper were insignificant compared to his former master.
Bang’s combination of physical strength, speed, durability, and martial arts experience makes him one of the most dangerous fighters in the Hero Association. He has easily overpowered powerful Dragon-level threats like Gums and Fuhrer Ugly , and even sparred evenly with the likes of Superalloy Darkshine and Garou despite their extraordinary abilities.

-
Enhanced Senses: Bang can sense evil or negative energy, such as the dark presence inside Garou that influenced his disciple’s behavior.
Fighting Style
-
Master Martial Artist: Bang is one of the most skilled martial artists in the world, earning him the title of the “Greatest Treasure of Martial Arts.” His decades of experience allowed him to develop Water Stream Rock Smashing Fist , a martial art that balances offense and defense. His technique is far more refined and efficient than Garou’s, and for Bang, it has become second nature. He has used his mastery to defeat powerful opponents, including Dragon-level threats, and held his own against an evolved Garou.
-
Water Stream Rock Smashing Fist (流水岩砕拳,Ryūsui Gansai-ken): Bang’s signature martial art, developed after years of training. It is known as the ultimate defensive style, capable of effortlessly deflecting and countering opponents’ attacks. Awakening Breath(剛醒呼法,Gousei Kohou): A breathing technique that enhances Bang’s physical abilities temporarily, pushing his body to its limits. This technique boosts his strength and resilience, allowing him to endure prolonged fights and rescue allies during intense battles.
-
Exploding Heart Release Fist(爆心解放拳,Bakushin Kaihō-ken): Bang’s former martial art, which focused on destructive offensive power. After being defeated by Bomb, Bang abandoned this style in favor of the more defensive Water Stream Rock Smashing Fist. He refuses to use this style, as it reminds him of his violent past, even when he was pushed into a corner during his fight with Garou.
-
Whirlwind Water Stream: Roaring Aura Sky Ripping Fist(旋風流水 轟気空裂拳,Senpū Ryūsui: Gōki Kūretsu-ken): A combination technique performed by Bang and Bomb, which fuses their respective martial arts to deliver powerful shockwaves that can reduce enemies to dust. This technique was strong enough to breakElder Centipede’scarapace.
-
Whirlwind Water Stream: Cross Fang Dragon Slayer Fist(旋風流水 交牙竜殺拳,Senpū Ryūsui: Kōga Ryūsatsu-ken): An even more powerful combination of Bang and Bomb’s martial arts.
