Yuno Grinberryall(ユノ・グリンベリオール,Yuno Gurinberiōru) is an orphan raised by the church in the village of Hage after the fall ofHouse Grinberryall, the former royal family of the Spade Kingdom. He wields a rarefour-leaf clover grimoireand serves as a Magic Knight in theGolden DawnandRoyal Knightssquads of the Clover Kingdom.
Yuno rises quickly through the ranks, eventually being promoted to vice-captain of the Golden Dawn and later achieving the title of Grand Magic Knight, the youngest person ever to do so. After William Vangeance steps down, Yuno is appointed as the Golden Dawn’s second captain.1st Class Senior Magic Knightand even serve temporarily as aRoyal Knight.
Yuno is chosen by Sylph, the spirit of wind, who begins serving him after he discovers her scroll in a dungeon. He is also the human vessel for the reincarnated spirit of Licht and Tetia’s son, further connecting him to the powerful lineage of the elves.

Appearance
Yuno is a young man of average height with messy black hair, golden eyes, and a lean build. He is often regarded as handsome, with Asta calling him “pretty jerk,” and Yami Sukehiro once echoing this sentiment on the battlefield. According to Ralph Niaflem, Yuno closely resembles his mother, Ciel Grinberryall.
Yuno’s typical outfit consists of a black, high-collared shirt with long sleeves, brown leather covering the wrists and upper arms, and light brown pants that stop just below his knees. He wears dark socks and boots, and carries his grimoire in a pouch strapped to his waist. Around his neck, he wears a gold-colored necklace with a blue magic stone, decorated with a gold cross and four-pointed stars.
After joining the Golden Dawn, Yuno begins wearing the squad’s signature robe, which is gold with blue fur trimming the hood and intricate designs. Blue ropes connect to a gold button on his right shoulder, keeping the robe secure, with the squad’s insignia on the left side.
When combined with Sylph, the wind spirit, Yuno’s left arm turns green, a green wing sprouts from his back, and a green half-crown appears on his head. As he draws more from his spirit magic, the left half of his body and hair turns green, completely covered by Sylph’s power.
While possessed by an elf spirit, a red tattoo appears on Yuno’s left cheek, and his ears become pointed.

Personality
Yuno is known for his calm and emotionless demeanor, speaking only when necessary. His reserved nature can often cause people to misunderstand his intentions. Despite his quiet disposition, Yuno harbors a strong ambition to become the Wizard King, a goal he developed growing up alongside Asta. His rivalry with Asta is intense, and Yuno will go to great lengths to protect him, even confronting anyone who threatens Asta’s safety. He also takes opportunities to make Asta look good, sometimes at his own expense, such as when he deliberately challenges Asta with his strongest magic, knowing Asta can handle it.
Initially, Yuno is distant towards his Golden Dawn squadmates but gradually becomes more sociable and builds strong friendships, particularly with Mimosa and Klaus. His blunt and straightforward nature often surprises those around him, as he doesn’t hold back his thoughts.
Yuno shares several traits with Asta, such as his determination and unwillingness to give up, traits he developed while training with Asta during their childhood. Unlike Asta, Yuno remains calm under pressure, showing a quiet but intense resolve during battles. However, in his early years, Yuno was more of a crybaby, until Asta’s determination inspired him to change.
Despite his composed and sometimes distant personality, Yuno is protective of his friends and comrades. His actions, such as defending his squadmates from danger or becoming enraged when his guild members are harmed, demonstrate his deep sense of loyalty and justice. His protectiveness is sometimes misinterpreted as arrogance, but Yuno’s kindness is clear, as seen when he accepts Charmy’s offer of food after saving her, showing his considerate and conventional side.

As the human vessel for an elf spirit and the heir to the Spade Kingdom, Yuno possesses vast magic reserves. This is evident during the Magic Knights Entrance Exam when no anti-birds, which avoid strong magic, approach him. His immense magic power allows him to cast two spells simultaneously with ease. Yuno is strong enough to hold his own against two of the Diamond Kingdom’s Eight Shining Generals, even defeating one of them. After undergoing the elf reincarnation spell, his magic power increases further, and he achieves Stage Zero rank. A year and three months after receiving his second grimoire, Yuno’s power advances to the point where he can take down high-ranking devils alone and shield the entire Noble Realm from countless magical attacks.
Enhanced Mana Sensory
Yuno can sense mana in his surroundings and visualize its flow, perceiving it as a flock of winged beings. This heightened awareness helps him gauge his opponents and react accordingly.
Mana Zone
Yuno can manipulate the mana in the environment around him, amplifying the power and range of his spells. This ability also allows him to catch opponents off-guard by generating spells behind them.
Spirit Absorption
By combining Mana Zone with his refined Mana Skin, Yuno merges with Sylph, vastly increasing his magic power. This transformation allows him to match the strength of a Magic Knight Captain like Rill Boismortier, though he initially loses to Zenon Zogratis of the Dark Triad. With further training and a stronger bond with Sylph, Yuno overpowers Zenon when he uses 80% of his devil’s power but struggles when Zenon reaches 100%.

Due to being the vessel of a human-elf hybrid, Yuno possesses two magic attributes: Wind Magic and Star Magic, granting him a unique edge in battle.
